Recreation area revived with £8,820 grant

Malvern Editorial 19th Dec, 2013 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016

A RECREATION area has been revived thanks to nearly £9,000 worth of funding.

The space behind Great Witley Village Hall, known as Quartergreen by residents, received a Leader Programme grant of £8,820 to overhaul an old brick storage shed into a changing area, toilet, washing booth, small kitchenette and storage space for equipment.

A small paved meeting and sitting area has also been created so visitors can watch sports taking place on the court.

The project, supported by Malvern Hills District Council and Great Witley Parish Council, received funding as part of the Rural Development Programme for England which aims to help develop vibrant and thriving rural communities.

Jan Jays, Great Witley resident and Quartergreen Committee chair, said: “The aim of the refurbishment is to establish an environmentally friendly changing facility that pays for itself. We can’t wait for the community to start using it. We hope that it will encourage better use of the area and we would like to see groups using the sports facilities throughout the year.”

Coun Phil Grove, responsible for community services at MHDC, added: “It’s fantastic that Malvern Hills District Council working with a local community group can help facilitate such a valuable and much-needed development.

“I hope the new facility will help to inspire more residents to make the most of this area.”

The space can be booked by calling Great Witley Post Office on 01299 896201.
