Relief for residents and drivers as gas pipe replacement work on busy Malvern road is coming to an end

A GAS pipe replacement programme and the associated works on a busy road which impacted on residents is coming to an end.

Cadent has been carrying out the mains gas pipe upgrade along West Malvern Road and it is due to finish this week.

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin met with the team which has been managing the project.

The system has been future-proofed in case there is a need to distribute hydrogen instead of natural gas.

Further work is not expected to be needed in the area for another 80 years.

Ms Baldwin said: “Major projects like these are always going to cause disruption and the road closures have come at a difficult time of year.

“I know the team running the project have worked hard to be as flexible as possible to reduce the impact on local people but we will all be glad to see the end of the works.

“I’m told this project will mean that this pipework will last until the end of this century and I firmly hope that this will be the case.

“Of course, by then, we may not even be relying on gas to heat our homes and cook our food but I would expect this important utility network is fit-for-purpose for many years to come.”
