Rescue charity to host children's superhero disco in Malvern

THE MERCIA Accident Rescue Service (MARS), is calling on the Malvern community to grab their superhero style costumes for its first children’s charity disco.

Founded in 1983, the charity’s fun event will take place at Malvern Vale’s Community Centre next Saturday (December 10) between 4pm and 6pm.

MARS is formed by a group of highly trained and experienced clinicians, who volunteer to provide advanced pre-hospital immediate care to those in need of it.

All funds raised from the Superhero and Princess themed event will be used to help train and equip MARS immediate care practitioners, who come from a range of specialities such as emergency medicine, general practice, cardiothoracic surgery and anaesthetics, and in their spare time attend to 999 emergencies through MARS in support of the NHS ambulance service.

Andy Thurgood chairman and clinical director of MARS, said: “The MARS Children’s Fundraising Disco provides us with the opportunity to put on a fun and light-hearted event for local children, whilst helping us to raise funds for the vital life-saving work MARS volunteers provide on a daily basis.

“Without the help and support of members from the general public, MARS simply would not exist, which means the West Midlands Ambulance Service would be overstretched and the outcome may have been very different for a number of our survivors. The heroic life-saving work carried out by MARS members is reflected in the event’s theme, reminding attendees of the charities gallant nature!”

The children’s disco will also include a number of party games with prizes for the best fancy dress – all for just a small entry fee of £2.50 per child.

Any children would like to attend should simply come along on the day. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
