Residents donate 1,500kg

MORE than 1,500kg of food was donated to the town’s foodbank by Waitrose shoppers in two days.

Volunteers were at the Edith Walk store collecting on Friday and Saturday (December 6 and 7).

Shoppers taking part had to chose one item from a list of goods which is in short supply at the foodbank’s new premises at Spring Lane.

Around 50 per cent extra has been collected this time round compared to a collection at the store earlier in the year and items are still being weighed.

Mike Hayes, chairman of Malvern Hills Food Bank, said: “This is a fantastic response from the people of Malvern Hills to help those in difficulty and crisis in our area.

“Huge thanks to them and to Waitrose for allowing us to run this event.”
