A GET-TOGETHER for all the lads who played football for Leigh United and Leigh United Old Boys football clubs will be held by a Leigh Sinton impresario.
John Banner is putting together the event at The Portobello on Bransford Road in St Johns on Friday (October 28) from 3pm. Food will be available at £5 per head.
John, whose main claim to fame is that he has put on more different concerts at The Swan Theatre and Huntingdon Hall in Worcester than any other promoter, was secretary of the Leigh football teams from 1962 to 1982 when they played in the Malvern League and ran them virtually single-handed.
“I thought, at the age of 80, it would be a good idea to have a reunion – whilst most of us are still alive, and can still recall the tales to tell,” he said.
He has compiled an extensive list of all the players he can think of and appreciates he may have missed one or two plus, regrettably, there are more than a few of the named who are sadly no longer with us.
