A COMMITTED farmer who has overseen the Three Counties Agricultural Society for six years has been presented with a special crystal decanter by HRH The Princess Royal to say ‘thank you’ for his services.

Michael Blandford has retired as chairman of council, a position he had held since 2011, and was delighted to receive his gift from the society.

Mr Blandford, a farmer from Coddington who specialises in cider fruit production, became a member of Three Counties Agricultural Society Council in 1982.

He will continue working with the society by overseeing the stewarding of the apple and pear orchards at the Three Counties Showground.

Ken Nottage, chief executive of the Three Counties, said: “I would like to personally thank Michael for his dedication to the role of chairman of council.

“It’s been a pleasure and a privilege working with him. I thank him immensely for his support.”

Mr Blandford was also awarded Honorary Life Governorships alongside fellow retiring members Barbara Norman, Chris Bailey, Arthur Hurran and Chris Southgate.

Clive Road, managing partner of Worcester Livestock Market, will now take over as the new chairman of council.

Mr Nottage said: “I would like to congratulate Clive as he takes over the role.

“I am sure he will be a very worthy successor to Michael and will proactively represent the views of the council to the full.”
