Runners ready for Acorns charity fun

PEOPLE in Malvern will pull on their running shoes tomorrow to help a charity celebrate its tenth anniversary.

Keen runners will take to the track at the Three Counties Showground on Sunday (June 21) for the 2015 Triple Run, in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The annual event shares its tenth anniversary with the Acorns’ Three Counties Hospice, which first opened its doors in Bath Road, Worcester, on March 14 2005.

More than 10,000 people have been involved in the runs, raising in excess of £350,000 for the charity.

Laura Heathfield, events manager for Acorns, said: “It is fantastic to see the Triple Run in double figures and this year is hugely significant both for the event and our Three Counties hospice.

“We rely on public fund-raising and voluntary donations from events such as the Triple Run to provide us with the majority of the funding we need to operate all three of our hospices, which costs more than £8.8million.”

The courses, which include the 1km Fun Run, the 5km Woodland Trail and the Malvern Half Marathon, are designed to appeal to all ages, levels of fitness and sporting ability.

Ken Nottage, chief executive of the Three Counties Showground, added: “I am delighted that the Acorns Triple Run continues to go from strength to strength and is now marking its tenth year.

“I am sure this year will be just as successful and I’m looking forward to everyone packing out the Showground and raising funds in support of this truly worthwhile cause.”
