Sainsbury’s open new store and create an extra 25 jobs

DOZENS of new jobs have been created in Malvern after a new Sainsbury’s was opened as part of a major housing development.

Up to 25 jobs will be made available at the Buttercup Walk shop, built in the Malvern Vale scheme, after it opened its doors to new customers on Thursday (August 6).

The store cut the red ribbon at 9am with help from Abby Hanley, centre manager from the Malvern Vale Community Centre, and children from the playgroup centre.

Ian Griffiths, shop manager, said: “As the new store manager of the Sainsbury’s Malvern Buttercup Walk Local, I am extremely proud to be opening our new store.

“Colleagues and I have been looking forward to welcoming our new customers and showcasing the great range of products we have on offer.

“The development (Malvern Vale) has been here for a while now and there is nothing here to go and buy from or to go and do your shopping. Now we are within walking distance for so many people.

“I would like to thank Abby Hanley who joined us for the ribbon cutting. We hope to continue working closely with Malvern Vale Community Centre and the rest of the local community.”

The convenience store will be open from 7am to 11pm, seven days a week, and offer groceries, fresh foods, an in-store bakery, fruit and vegetables, ready meals, sandwiches and chilled beer and wine.

Abby added: “We are thrilled to have been involved in the opening of the new Sainsbury’s Malvern Buttercup Walk Local. It is fantastic to welcome a new Sainsbury’s Local to the community and on behalf of the centre and YMCA Worcestershire I would like to thank the store for supporting our community fête on August 29.”
