Sanctuary Care residents in Malvern set sail for special day out

Malvern Editorial 21st May, 2018   0

IT WAS all hands on deck as seafaring residents from a Sanctuary Care home in Malvern took to the water for a special day out.

Setting sail on the ‘Spirit of Freedom’, residents and team members from Hastings Residential Care Home on Barnards Green Road enjoyed a day a float on the Sharpness Canal, Gloucester, with the Willow Trust.

The residents and team relaxed in the sun on the wheelchair accessible boat, looking out for wildlife along the canal-side.

Resident John West even got the opportunity to act as captain, having a go at steering the boat.

Speaking of his adventure, he said: “I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was nice to be out – we all had a good old laugh.”

Home manager Sue Milward added: “Our residents had a wonderful day on the water.

“Many of our residents will have had holidays on boats or even owned boats at a time, so it was a lovely way to bring back fond memories whilst enjoying the sunshine.”

The Willow Trust was founded in 1989 with the aim to provide a unique opportunity for disabled people of all ages and types of disability or serious illness to enjoy a therapeutic day out on the water.
