CAMPAIGNERS are holding a protest outside the Three Counties Showground today (Friday) against controversial plans to build holiday lodges in a unique woodland.
The Save Langdale Wood campaign are outside the showground until 1pm as they protest the Three Counties Agricultural Society’s plans to build 40 lodges and a reception within the Blackmore Park Road woodland.
Sharon Taylor, who set up the Save Langdale Wood campaign, is leading the protest with supporters singing protest songs from the 1960s.
The application to build 40 lodges and a reception came after the society’s plans to build 50 lodges were rejected by Malvern Hills District Council’s southern area planning committee.
Two days after the rejection, the wood was closed due to ‘concerns over public safety’.
However, Ken Nottage, chief executive of 3CAS, had confirmed the society were advised to keep the woodland closed after an application to make Langdale Wood an Asset of Community Value was submitted.
The ACV application was rejected in March.
