Selfies can spread the message - Self-Help Not Self-Harm

Malvern Editorial 14th Feb, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

A SOCIAL media campaign encouraging people to write positive messages on their arms has been launched to raise awareness of self harm.

The drive from Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust asks Twitter and Facebook users to take a picture of themselves – known as a selfie – with a message on their wrists about something they do to cope with stress, pressure or feeling anxious. Suggestions include talking to friends, getting active or socialising.

The campaign will run throughout February, which has been dedicated as Self-Help Not Self-Harm awareness month following a 40 per cent increase in the numbers of children and young people self-harming in the county.

Selfies can be posted using the hashtag #selfhelpnotselfharm and anyone taking part should nominate three or more friends to do the same, as well as e-mailing [email protected] with the picture.
