A COMMUNITY volunteer in Malvern has been crowned a hero in recent awards celebrating the efforts of residents across Worcestershire.
Brenda White, aged 72, received a going the extra mile award in recognition of her ‘unwavering dedication, tireless volunteering, and deeply selfless spirit’ in Platforming Housing Group’s recent Community Hero Awards.
The Malvern native has made an extraordinary impact in her local community, particularly through her work at St Mary’s Church. There, she supports the Dinner Club, which provides two-course meals for older residents, those experiencing homelessness or anyone in need.
She also helps run a children’s club at the church during school holidays. Brenda also organises trips and away days for Platform customers.
At 72 years old, when many might be slowing down, Brenda has taken on a bold new challenge by applying to become a foster carer again.
She has even moved to a two-bedroom home to support this goal, hoping to support children who need a nurturing place to call home.
Brenda’s kindness extends beyond the organisations she works with.
As a respected and much-loved figure in her community she can often be found litter picking, cooking meals for neighbours, or supporting people through difficult times.
Her belief in the power of community and compassion has had a ripple effect, inspiring others to follow her lead.
Nicholas Richardson, community engagement officer at Platform Housing Group said: “Brenda’s energy and dedication are unmatched.
“She approaches everything with positivity. She is always willing to learn, recently borrowing a computer from Platform to further her digital skills, which reflects her commitment to personal growth and her desire to serve her community. Brenda is a true asset to Malvern.”
