Seth and Owen land star role with Jason Donovan

A PAIR of local lads have been chosen to perform alongside Australian star Jason Donovan at an upcoming show in the town.

Seth Robinson, 10, and Owen Lowe, 12, will jointly play the role of Little Jake when Wild-West tale Annie Gets Your Gun comes to Malvern Theatres on Thursday, July 29 and runs until Saturday, August 2.

The pair, who have already performed alongside each other when Evita played at the venue, came through auditions held at the theatre last month.

Seth, who goes to Somers Park Primary School in Malvern, said he returned home from school the next day when his parents broke the news to him.

“I ran around the house screaming because I was so excited,” he said.

“My parents were chuffed as well and they have told me all about Jason Donovan.”

Owen, from Worcester and who attends Christopher Whitehead School in the city, was also delivered the good news on the same day.

“My dad rang up the school and someone came into my classroom and told me. Everyone started clapping and cheering. I was buzzing and now I can’t wait to get on the stage.”

Annie Get Your Gun tells the story of sharpshooters Annie Oakley (played by Emma Williams) and Frank Butler (Jason Donavon) who become romantically entwined when Buffalo Bill’s (Norman Pace) Wild West Show comes to town.

Former Neighbours star Donovan, who was incidentally born in Malvern, Australia, said: “I’ve been very lucky in having some great roles to get my teeth into in the past, but now having the chance to star in the UK premiere production of this award winning version of such a classic musical is very exciting.

“I’m very much looking forward to performing such brilliant songs and appearing alongside a truly great cast as we bring the Wild West to theatres across the country.”
