Road closures expected as Severn Trent announce £6million works for Malvern

SEVERN Trent has announced it will invest £6million on making improvements to Malvern’s water supply this summer but has warned residents to expect road closures while works take place.

The water firm plans to deliver a brand new underground water storage reservoir and three miles of new water pipes from Cowleigh Road to Lower Wyche.

Works are expected to begin in mid-August and will last for approximately a year starting at Old Hallow and Como Road.

But before work begins, Severn Trent bosses has invited residents to a drop-in session to hear more about the plans. This will be held at Malvern Cube on Albert Road North on Monday (July 4) between 4pm and 7pm.

The firm said they feel now is the right time to be investing in Malvern once again but advised residents to be alert to road closures while works are in progress.

Gareth Mead, from Severn Trent, said: “To make sure we can continue to serve the community in Malvern for years to come, we need to build additional water pipes and replace an underground storage reservoir.

“We’re regularly checking our water network across Malvern and believe now is the right time to invest in our infrastructure to make sure we can provide the town with a continuous supply of water.

“This is a big investment for us – we’re spending £6 million and we want to make sure that while we’re working in the area we share our plans with the community.

“We’d encourage local residents to come along to the drop-in to hear about the work. Everyone is welcome to pop by and meet the team and to get an update and hear more about the project.”

The firm said more information about the inevitable road closures will be available at Monday’s drop-in session.

Mr Mead added: “In order to keep everybody safe we’ll need to close some of the roads while we’re working in them, but more information about this will be available at the drop-in session.

“We know that this work may cause some inconvenience and closing roads will cause disruption for the local community, and we’d like to apologise to anyone who will be affected, and to ask for their patience.

“This work will help us to keep the water running for our customers in Malvern for many years to come.”
