SILHOUETTES of soldiers can be spotted in various locations across the Malvern Hills district to mark the final year of the First World War centenary.
This year, Remembrance Sunday (November 11) marks 100 years since the end of the First World War and is a time for people to come together and reflect on the millions of lives lost between 1914 and 1918.
Malvern Hills District Council has placed ‘Silent Soldier’ figures at Priory Park, Belle Vue Terrace, the Pepperpot in Upton, Tenbury and Kempsey.
The near life-size silhouettes of ‘Tommy’, the original silent soldier, are part of the Royal British Legion’s campaign to say thank-you to the First World War generation who served, sacrificed, rebuilt and changed the nation.
Coun Tony Baker, vice-chairman of Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We are proud to be supporting the Royal British Legion’s ‘Silent Soldier’ campaign which marks the final year of the World War One Centenary.
“The thought-provoking silhouettes stand across Malvern as a mark of respect to those who never made it home and are an important reminder of the sacrifices made by all who were involved in the conflict.”
