LEDBURY’s latest Big Breakfast event was met with a sizzling reception from the public and traders of the town.

Cafés, pubs and hotels in the town had a busy couple of days on Friday and Saturday (January 31 and February 1) as they all worked together to serve up a range of special breakfast offerings to celebrate the event.

Organised by the Ledbury Food Group, the event aims to celebrate Ledbury’s wide range of locally produced food and drink in association with the national Farmhouse Breakfast Week.

Food including local fruit, vegetable juices and bacon and cheese scones were the theme of the weekend. Town MP Bill Wiggin also attended and joined in the feast.

Special sausages such as the Full Monty were on offer and Rachel Hicks from Just Rachel Quality Desserts introduced a breakfast themed ice cream using local cream, granola and honey at the Three Counties Cider Shop.

Tastebuds were also tingling at the Talbot Hotel when a special brunch was entertained by Gareth Calan Davies with his tales from the inns of Ledbury.

Outside the town centre, The Shop at Bromsberrow, Roots Herefordshire and Trumpet Corner also joined in with their own special offerings.

Mayor of Ledbury Terry Widdows, who attended the event, said: “I am obviously delighted to be supporting the big breakfast event this year.

“It built on the success of last year’s event and is an ideal opportunity for people to sample good quality, locally produced food.

“The local food chain is an integral part part of the local economy creating many local jobs throughout the chain and it is important that we continue to support it.”

Fran Robinson, chair of Ledbury Food Group, added: “It was an extremely successful event and it was great to see such a big turnout despite the cold weather.

“We had even more participants taking part than last year and the feedback we have received has been great.”
