Small site in Malvern finally approved for housing after multiple refusals

A HOMEBUILDER has secured approval for a small housing development in Malvern at a somewhat turbulent site.

Cameron Homes secured approval at the end of July to build 16 homes on land at Geraldine Road with development set to start in Autumn this year.

The site has been earmarked for development for a few years but repeated unsuccessful attempts to seek planning permission has led to reductions in the number of homes proposed.

Previous plans put forward by Keon Homes in 2021 and 2022 were both refused by Malvern Hills District Council. An appeal to the planning inspectorate also proved unsuccessful.

The proposed number of homes has been reduced each time an application comes forward – from 37 to 28 and now 16. Touchstone Day Centre, a community space on the site, has been closed since 2016 and will be demolished to facilitate development.

Development will include 16 ‘premium houses’ including detached and semi-detached types with between two, three and four bedrooms.

Commenting on the latest acquisition, Kate Tate, Group Strategic Land and Planning Director at Cameron Homes, said: “We’re delighted to have secured a new development site to bring our high-quality and sustainable homes to the beautiful town of Malvern.

“Our Malvern scheme will demonstrate the premium build quality Cameron Homes is renowned for while reflecting the vision and needs of the local community.

“As we prepare to break ground this autumn, we’re looking forward to working with local suppliers and stakeholders to bring this new site to life.”

During public consultation, dozens of residents chipped in with their thoughts sharing concerns around access to the site, adoption and maintenance of the estate, ‘poor’ public engagement and more.
