Sponsors hear about rugby charity

SPONSORS of new equipment designed to stop flooding at Ledbury Rugby Club heard more about a charity helping injured players.

During a special lunch to thank those who helped get the bund installed at the club – which has already been used during recent bad weather – a speech was given by Ian Beer CBE from the Injured Players Foundation.

The charity helps those who have been severely disabled through rugby, including those who have become tetraplegics.

He said: “We are Rugby Union’s charity and raise funds for the Injured Players Foundation and we look after seriously injured players for life, helping with the changes to their lives and adapting conditions to support them.

“Our mission is to be there for every seriously injured player and improve the care of those who need our help. In addition we are funding a PhD studentship to look at making rugby safer and help prevent future injuries through research and education so that all sports fans can continue to enjoy our great game.”
