St Matthias Primary School youngsters set for charity walk

PUPILS at a Malvern school will be increasing their fitness, enjoying the countryside and supporting a local charity when they take part in this weekend’s St Richard’s Hospice Malvern Hills Walk.

A team of over 75 pupils, teachers, and families from St Matthias CE Primary School have been busy getting into shape so that they can step out for hospice care on Saturday.

The St Richard’s Hospice annual Malvern Hills sponsored walk is one of the hospice’s most popular events on the calendar with almost 500 people already signed up to take part.

There are three routes available over two, five or eleven miles with the shorter two routes being circular and suitable for the whole family.

St Richard’s Hospice provides free care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses and supports their families. Each year the hospice team supports over 2,600 patients and family members in Worcestershire with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

The school’s involvement with the event was the idea of Mrs Ginnie Beale – St Matthias’ deputy headteacher – who has fired up pupils and teachers alike with enthusiasm to support St Richard’s.

Pupils will be taking on the event’s five-mile circular route.

Mrs Beale said: “We are all very excited to be taking part in this sponsored walk. The hospice provides wonderful care for patients and their families and we are hoping to collect as much money as possible to help the hospice continue to care for local families.

“We are hoping that the sun will shine on the day, but we are sure that we will all have fun while enjoying these beautiful surroundings on our doorstep.”

The event is being kindly sponsored by Energy Gain UK Ltd.
