A MALVERN vet is set to face one of his toughest challenges ever when he takes on an 100-mile walk for charity.
Richard Chamings, who helps much-loved pets get back on their feet on a daily basis at the town’s White House Vets surgery, will be walking the Two Moors Way challenge starting today (Friday).
The long-distance walk takes place over five days across Dartmoor and Exmoor in Devon and will be in aid of the Hounds For Heroes charity.
The charity aims to provide specially trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled men and women of both the UK Armed Forces and the emergency services.
Speaking to the Observer, Mr Chamings said he was expecting a tough few days ahead but was excited to be raising funds for the charity.
He said: “I’ve always been a keen walker but have never done anything this long before.
“It is going to be a tough challenge because there could be tricky weather conditions while walking but I’ve prepared well. It’s quite exciting.
“I will be doing the walk with a close friend so I’m sure to have some company when the going gets tough. It’s better to walk in pairs I think.”
And Mr Chamings’ fund-raising mission has got off to a sterling start after raising more than £990 so far.
“I’ve been thrilled with the support I’ve had so far, it’s definitely kept me motivated.
“Most of the funds have come through people visiting the surgery which has been great to see.”
Staff at the White House Vets surgery will also be doing their bit for the Hounds for Heroes charity when they host a fund-raising dog show in June.
