Support the council in identifying and helping rough sleepers this Christmas

Malvern Editorial 22nd Dec, 2023   0

MALVERN Hills District Council is asking for residents help in identifying and supporting rough sleepers this Christmas.

The councils is urging anyone who sees a rough sleeper to notify the Streetlink Service, who will inform the council of each report.

Streetlink will pass the details to the council and their partners, who will find the rough sleeper to check if they are already getting help.

If they are not, support – including accommodation – will be offered.

The council works closely with charities and health organisations to help rough sleepers and those at risk of homelessness, and shelters will be opening in the area for rough sleepers from December 23 to 27.

They are operated on the council’s behalf by its contractor, the charity CCP (Caring for Communities & People), who also open the shelters during severe weather under the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP).

Councillor Natalie McVey, portfolio holder for housing and health at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “Our housing team and our partners work incredibly hard throughout the year to support people who are homeless, as well as prevent people from losing their homes in the first place.

“But despite all the support available, we sadly still see people sleeping rough.

“We can offer help if we know where people are. If you see someone sleeping rough, please use Streetlink and let us know, and maybe we can change someone’s life for the better this Christmas.”

Visit https://thestreetlink.org.uk/ to notify them of a rough sleeper.
