A DEDICATED charity volunteer and an organiser for one of Malvern’s biggest calender events has been awarded an OBE.
Roger Head, a committee member of the RHS Malvern Spring Festival, was recognised for his services to charity and the community in the New Year’s Honours List which was the was released recently.
He is well known for the restoration of the gardens of his home Highnam Court, which took him 13 years to complete. More than 20,000 people visit the gardens each year with all proceedings being donated to charity.
Mr Head will visit Buckingham Palace in the next few weeks to receive his OBE from The Queen.
“The best part of it will be taking my 87-year-old mother Grace to the palace, that will be a real highlight,” he said.
Mr Head has also been a Three Counties Agricultural Society Council member since November 2005 and helped organise the RHS Malvern Spring Festival for several years
“I have thoroughly enjoyed the last ten years at the Three Counties,” he said.
“Everyone at the Three Counties is dedicated and passionate about what they do and the RHS Malvern Spring Festivals are continuing to go from strength to strength.
“By far my favourite RHS show of the year is RHS Malvern Spring Festival and it is the finest gardening show in the country. I feel privileged to have sat on the Joint Committee with the RHS to have a hand in making the show happen.”
Ken Nottage, CEO of Three Counties was happy to see Roger had been honoured with an OBE and praised for his charity work.
He said: “Roger’s contribution to the Three Counties as both a council and board member have been invaluable and his counsel is always much appreciated.
“He gives his time voluntarily and his enthusiasm is always infectious.
“I feel privileged to have worked with him over the last number of years and we’d like to offer our heartfelt congratulations on this well-deserved accolade.”
