A ‘MYSTERIOUS’ run of overnight burglar alarms at Tenbury Wells Fire Station has come to an unlikely conclusion.
When residents of the home which backs onto the station told the centre’s staff their cat had gone missing on August 24, fire fighters and police colleagues thought nothing of it.
Then, mysteriously, the fire station’s burglar alarm was repeatedly triggered overnight, while searches for the intruder were unsuccessful.
“We thought no more about it until this week when the alarm at the station went off each night – our crew and the police turned out but found nothing,” said Watch Commander Ian Bowkett.
The ‘happy ending’ has now come with the discovering that the suspected burglar was in fact, the resident’s missing cat, Portia.
“Last night, someone took a picture of a cat in the station window. And this morning we discovered Portia hiding behind the fire station’s washing machine.”
“So now, cat and owners have been happily reunited,” Ian added.
Portia’s owner, Ruth Pocknell, said her and her partner, David, were ‘over the moon’ to have her back.
Ruth added: “David and I are so very grateful to everyone at the station and all who helped to find her and spread the word on social media that we were looking for her.
“She looks no different to when she went missing.”
