'Terrible' attack on teen under police investigation

AN INVESTIGATION is underway after reports of a ‘terrible’ attack on a 13-year-old girl in Malvern Link.

A police spokesman confirmed they were looking into an incident involving two teenage girls at Victoria Park last Monday (August 10) after receiving reports of an assault.

One witness of the alleged attack was Laura Hayes, who was with her two-year-old son in the park about 4.30pm when she saw a large group of people walk past her.

She told The Observer: “I am keeping my eye on my little boy and the next thing I hear is someone screaming and shouting and I look around and one of the girls is on the floor and another is looking over her and kicked her.

“She shouted at her then kicked her again and walked off.

“I thought ‘is this actually happening?’ I could feel my body willing to shout ‘stop, what are you doing’, but it was just over so quickly and I couldn’t leave my toddler – it was terrible.

“One of the boys walked past and said ‘is that it? I can’t believe I came out for this, I am going home’.”

Laura, who has lived in the town for the past four years, said her toddler was ‘absorbed’ in his ice cream so didn’t see the incident, but added there were numerous young families in the park at the time.

“You think that some of the children in the playground may have seen it and it is really sad,” she added.

“I have got two kids now and I don’t want them being exposed to this type of thing.

“If it was 11 o’clock at night going down a dodgy alley then fair enough, but it was really bright, lots of children around and I was just really surprised.

“I moved here from London, and I would expect that behaviour more over there, but not so much in the scenic town of Malvern.”

A police spokesman said both the two females allegedly involved, one victim and one attacker, were 13 years old.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
