The Chase School in Malvern gets £1,000 boost from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme

THE CHASE School in Malvern has been given £1,000 from Tesco’s Bags of Help community grant scheme, writes Ryan Smith.

The cash will be put towards buying 27 Chromebooks for the school’s science department.

The school’s PTA – Friends of the Chase – applied for the grant as part of its drive to raise £6,000 for the computers.

Tesco shoppers voted for three groups every time they visited the town’s store throughout July and August and the winners were announced last month.

Chris Smye, the faculty leader for science at The Chase School, said: “The Chromebooks have been an excellent addition to our classroom, both enhancing learning and engaging students.

“They can now easily access impressive animations that help them visualise the incredibly small, such as the structure of atoms, and the amazingly big, such as our place in the universe.”

Since launching in 2015 the Bags off Help community grant scheme has given out more than £63million to help fund over 20,000 local community projects throughout the UK.

Tesco’s head of community Alec Brown added the scheme had been a fantastic success and the firm had been overwhelmed by the response from customers.

“It’s such a special scheme because its local people who decide how the money will e spent in their community.

“We can’t wait to see the projects come to life.”
