Three choirs concert builds to standing ovation at Great Malvern Priory

GREAT Malvern Priory rang out with the powerful sound of around 70 voices as Malvern Male Voice Choir welcomed guests Vauxhall Luton Male Voice Choir and Bois Goetre-Hen Male Choir for a spectacular evening of music.

From the first note, the audience was taken on a musical journey spanning stirring Welsh choral classics to showstoppers from Les Misérables, Chess, Carmen, Sweet Charity and Carousel.

Contemporary hits from Snow Patrol and George Ezra sat comfortably alongside a crowd-pleasing Frank Sinatra medley, while a powerful rendition of Skyfall drew audible gasps from the packed audience.

Each choir showcased its own distinctive sound before combining for a series of massed performances that truly filled the Priory’s vaulted space.

The evening reached its climax with a spine-tingling American Trilogy – a performance so rousing it quite literally brought the audience to its feet in a prolonged standing ovation.

Speaking after the concert, the Musical Director of Malvern Male Voice Choir said: “Standing in front of that wall of sound was extraordinary.

“The sheer vocal strength and experience across all three choirs was astonishing. That ovation at the end was richly deserved by every single singer.”
