MALVERN has been recognised as one of the most beautiful places in the country after earning three Britain in Bloom accolades.

At an awards ceremony in Bristol last week the town was awarded a Silver Gilt Medal overall in the town category.

This year was the Malvern in Bloom team’s first go at the national competition and judges from the Royal Horticultural Society said the town was very close to achieving gold.

As well as that Malvern was shortlisted in the top five for the tourism award, which recognises the positive impact ‘In Bloom’ teams have on local tourism.

And to top the year off John Jordan, chairman of the Malvern in Bloom team, was handed a Community Champion prize for his exceptional commitment to the Britain in Bloom cause.

He said: “I was just sitting there quietly applauding everybody else and there was my name being called out. I am still recovering from the shock.

“I was overwhelmed and delighted to receive the award but I received it on behalf of all the Malvern in Bloom team and everyone who participated in the town’s entry to Britain in Bloom.”

Mr Jordan said he was particularly pleased with recognition in the tourism category.

He added: “Given we were a first entry into Britain in Bloom everyone can feel very proud of our achievement.

“I have every confidence we will be entered in this competition again and we have the potential makings of a category winner.”
