THIS WEEKEND residents across Malvern will be remembering those who lost their lives in the two World Wars and other conflicts over the years.
Tomorrow there will be a short service at the War Memorial located within Great Malvern Priory for Armistice Day.
There will be a two-minute silence and the planting of crosses in front of the memorial by both organisations and individuals.
A small reception, featuring The Trench Choir, will take place afterwards in the North Aisle.
Then on Remembrance Sunday the parade will muster in Graham Road, by the Pembridge Hotel, under the command of the parade marshal.
There will be music on the library forecourt from 2pm onwards from the Malvern Hills Brass Band, until the parade marches on.
The parade wll be led by the Malvern Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade Band and will feature a number of standards, ex-servicemen and women and representatives from West Mercia Police, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, the Sea Cadets, Air Cadets and Army Cadets, the Young Firefighters and other organisations.
At 2pm councillors, civic dignatries and guests will arrive on the library forecourt and wreath layers will assemble on the path leading to the War Memorial.
The service will start at 2.15pm, including prayers and grace led by the clergy from Malvern Methodist Churches. There will also be the Exhortation, the Last Post played by the Malvern Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade Band, the one-minute silence, the Reveille, the Kohima Epitaph and the laying of wreaths.
The ceremony will conclude at 2.45pm in the library grounds when the parade sets off for Malvern Priory where there will be a service at 3pm, featuring a two-minute silence, the Last Post and Reveille.
At 3.45pm the parade will remuster between the Abbey Archway to the front of the Post Office before marching along Church Street, giving a salute to the Mayor of Malvern Town Council at 4pm, en route to Priorty Drive.
There the Mayor will address and thank the parade and youth groups, concluding the proceedings.
