MALVERN will mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day by lighting the beacon at the summit of the town’s hills.
Malvern Hills District Council is supporting Worcestershire County Council in the lighting of the Worcestershire Beacon on Friday evening (May 8).
A chain of more than 100 beacons across the UK will be lit to mark 70 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe.
MHDC offered its services when the county council appealed for help to transport equipment needed to light the beacon at the top of the hills.
Ivor Pumfrey, head of community services at MHDC, said: “We are very proud to be a part of this event to mark such a significant day.
“We will also be flying the Union flag here at the council house on the morning of May 8 and we will stop the election count at 3pm to observe the two minute silence.
“We would like to encourage all members of the public to participate in the two minutes’ silence too.”
