CHRISTMAS is fast approaching and everyone is feeling the excitement – even traffic cones!
The sparkly cones can be seen at the junction of Belmont Road, Sayers Avenue and Broadlands Drive.
And the person responsible has told the Observer she did it because she wanted to help put smiles on people’s faces.
Emma Wesley from Malvern – who has given herself the name ‘Conesy’ – came to us after this initial story appeared on our website saying she wasn’t expecting her creative idea to receive so much attention.
She said: “I didn’t quite expect this much fuss about my cones!
“It started out as a fun conversation with a friend as our road has been filled with cones, mud and diggers for weeks and didn’t look at all festive.
“I have been decorating one cone a night for a week and each night taking in a cone and then putting it back out before the workmen arrived each morning, none of them knew which house was doing it. (8 in total)
“On the last day I took two cones out and gave them some beer and a note thanking them for letting me play with their cones and taking it in the spirit with which it was intended.
“I did it to make a few people smile. I teach my children about ripples… one little action can spread a small way or it can travel a long way.
“I apply it to most things, whether it’s smiling at a stranger or helping a friend. You never know what a smile can lead to or how much someone might need it.
“I am so happy that the cones are making people smile. My children have seen that a tiny action has touched lots of people in a good way and if they transfer that to everything they do.”
A motorist told the Observer he was forced to stop and take a closer look when he noticed the cones covered in tinsel and sparkly decorations.
He tweeted: “Forget decorated houses, how about decorated traffic cones!
“The work isn’t mine I was just driving past and found them! Just had to stop!”
