UPTON-upon-Severn looks set to become a major attraction for coach visitors after the town was showcased to some of the country’s top travel operators and writers.

Representatives from more than 40 organisations from across England attended the Upton Coach Stop event last Monday where they were treated to a tour of the area.

Organised by Malvern Hills District Council, Upton-upon-Severn Business Association and Steve Reed Tourism, the aim of the day was to highlight what Upton has to offer as an exciting new destination for coach parties.

During the trip those attending were treated to a cruise with Severn Leisure Cruises, lunch in The Boathouse Tapas and Wine Bar, a guided tour of Upton and a visit to local attractions including the Tourist Information and Heritage Centre in the iconic Pepperpot and Upton museum.

Some of the group also enjoyed a ‘Welcome to the Malvern Hills Dinner’ at the Bank House Hotel on the Sunday evening.

They got to sample English wines during a tasting session courtesy of Lovell’s Vineyard and deserts from The Pudding Shop in Upton.

They also enjoyed the sounds of jazz pianist Jay Riley, who regularly performs at the popular Upton Jazz Festival.

The event was hailed as a huge success with a number of national operators expressing interest in organising trips and including Upton in their future programmes.

Coun Andrea Morgan, vice-chairman of Malvern Hills District Council who met visitors during the trip, said: “The event was a huge success and made a lot of people consider Upton’s offer and how they could make the most of the town’s stunning location, attractions and attractive specialist shops, cafes and restaurants.”

The day was part of the council’s plans to further develop and reinforce The Malverns brand in a bid to attract more tourists and day visitors to the district.
