Volunteers needed to bring Malvern's heritage to life

Malvern Editorial 27th Apr, 2017   0

VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help bring Malvern’s history and heritage to life for the district’s young people.

The Great Malvern: Route to the Hills project is looking for activity leaders to help run craft and activity sessions and guided walks for families and children.

There are no set hours as events are usually one-off and scheduled in advance so volunteers would only need to be available to help prepare for the sessions and on the day itself.

The time commitment is expected to be about one day a month but can include weekends and Bank Holidays.

The role is ideally suited to friendly and approachable people, with excellent communication skills and with the ability to work with people of all ages.

Volunteers need to be over 18, be able to travel to and from events and be willing to undergo a DBS check.

Full training will be provided and no previous experience is necessary.

Katy Wade, learning and community engagement officer for the Route to the Hills project, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for someone to add some skills and experience to their CV, meet new people and play their part in bringing the heritage of their community to life for the next generation.”

The Route to the Hills project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and will create a walking route through Great Malvern, starting at the railway station and ending at Rose Bank Gardens.

The aim is to encourage visitors and residents to explore more of the town and discover the area’s outstanding natural, built and cultural heritage.

Alongside the heritage trail a series of community events and sessions in schools are planned to help inform people about the area’s history and heritage.

The project is run by a number of organisations, including Malvern Hills District Council and Malvern Town Council.

Anyone interested in applying should contact Katy Wade by emailing [email protected] or call 07779 456448 for more information.
