THE MAYOR of Malvern’s latest event has helped to raise over £2,000 for a local charity after plenty of residents got stuck into a walking challenge.

Councillor Marilyn Birks’ Mayors Peaks Challenge returned in 2025 over the bank holiday weekend with around 100 walkers taking part in different walks across the Malvern Hills.

The walks saw over 60 walkers complete the long walk across 17 peaks of the Malvern Hills, with over 35 walkers taking part in the short walk which started at British Camp.

Participants helped to raise over £2,000 for Cube Youth, Coun Birks’s chosen charity. All walkers received a t-shirt and medal on completion of the walk donated by local company ZX Lidars.

ZX Lidars provides industry-leading wind Lidar products for wind energy and meteorological applications.

ZX have also been active in supporting local including the Mayor’s chosen charity, Cube Youth, by inviting young people to tour their building and providing donations to support the continuing running of the charity.

Helen Keats, Director of Finance at ZX Lidars, said: “We are committed to supporting local projects and charitable causes through our Corporate Social Responsibility programme – The Adrian Coffey Project.

“Supporting the Mayor’s Peak Challenge aligns well with our ethos of this programme, bringing communities together to enjoy the great outdoors.

“We are also delighted to see Cube Youth being recognised and supported by this event, a wonderful charity who ZX have been working closely with to inspire and support young people in our local community.”

The walk also saw over 10 dogs take part in the walk alongside their owners, with all participating dogs getting a rosette and doggie goody bag with all kinds of treats in them kindly sponsored by local stationery business Austin & Co.

Malvern Town Council would also like to thank LH Services for kindly sponsoring a toilet at the Hollybush car park for the long walkers to use throughout the day.

The afternoon saw hundreds come along to Priory Park to welcome the walkers back and raise money for Cube Youth with a tombola, raffle, and children’s trail. Once the walkers returned, they had the chance to enjoy the live entertainment and performances from Cube Youth’s own rock bands, Dance in Motion, i-Sing Choir and The Fandango’s.
