PEELER the Warwickshire and West Mercia Police mascot has become a singing sensation with the help of school and nursery children in the Malvern Hills.
The song, ‘The Keep ‘Em Peeled Code’, takes the principles of safe crossing and sets them to music in the hope of educating both parents and pupils.
Great Malvern Primary School choir provided the backing vocals for PCSO Kevin Tudge, while Peeler the Dog and PCSO Steve Freeman lay down the guitar riffs and PC Dave Wise adds the drum beat.
The video to the song also stars youngsters from both Great Malvern Primary School and Little Oaks Day Nursery, Malvern who demonstrate a variety of safe crossing examples under the expert guidance of Peeler and Trudy, the Malvern Parish Primary School crossing guard.
Malvern based PCSO Kevin Tudge said: “This has been a great experience and we’re very grateful to everyone who has donated their time and talent to help complete this project. All our efforts have been in our own time and we’ll be using the video in future road safety presentations at schools in our policing area.”
PC Dave Wise added: “Whilst it’s a fun video we do have a serious message to promote. On average around a 1000 pupils a month are injured on roads near to schools in the UK. Whether you’re a pupil, a parent, or a motorist passing by, our message is stay alert, be bright and follow the Keep ‘Em Peeled Code!”
Police also expressed their thanks to The Funky Bunker studio in West Malvern for their kind donation of time to turn the video into reality.
