A CHURCH in Welland has rounded off its 150th anniversary year with a serious of celebrations to bring the whole community together.
The churchwardens have thanked all those who played a part in making the milestone year such a ‘joyful and memorable occasion’, from the very first planning meeting through to the final service.
Representatives from Welland Parish Council, Welland Primary School, the Royal British Legion, the Welland History Group, the bellringers and church musicians were among those who contributed time, knowledge and talents.
The packed programme ran from April to July and featured history talks and an exhibition by the Welland History Group, performances from choirs, a lively quiz night, and even a presentation on The Beatles.
The celebrations concluded on Sunday 27 July with a special Holy Communion service, attended by the Archdeacon of Worcester, the Ven. Mark Badger, led by Revd Virginia Clements, with Communion celebrated by Revd Barry Unwin.
As well as strengthening ties within the community, the events raised £2,200 for the church clock project.
In a joint statement, churchwardens John Martin and Richard Clements said: “The combined efforts, joyous celebrations and activities have been instrumental in bringing new people into the life of our church. We are so grateful to everyone who helped make our 150th anniversary year so special.”
