West Mercia Police can now use dashcam footage

Malvern Editorial 7th Jul, 2018   0

ROAD users now have the opportunity to use their own digital footage from dashcams and other devices to help keep the roads safer across the West Mercia Police area.

From last Friday, a new National Dashcam Safety Portal developed by Nextbase gives members of the public the power to report incidents of dangerous or unlawful driving.

Supported by the road safety charity Brake and national cycling charity Cycling UK the platform allows members of the public to submit digital footage showing potential traffic offences direct to West Mercia Police.

This can range from driving dangerously or carelessly to overtaking on solid white lines, using a mobile phone while driving, ignoring traffic lights or dangerous driving around other road users, such as horse riders and cyclists.

The secure platform allows motorists to upload their video footage directly to the right police force.

Such offences will then be reviewed by a police officer and followed up as appropriate.

Supt Paul Moxley said: “I am confident that with the help of other road users, this technology will deter people from making poor choices on the road and help make our roads safer for all.”
