West Worcestershire candidate Harriett Baldwin backs plans for more county school funding

THE CONSERVATIVE Parliamentary candidate for West Worcestershire has repeated her commitment to press for a better funding deal for county schools.

The statement follows the publication of the Conservative manifesto which pledges an extra £4billion for schools over the next five years as well as £23billion being spent on school buildings.

Mrs Baldwin has been an active campaigner for fairer school funding since she was first elected to be an MP in 2010.

She said: “The Conservative manifesto sets out some important funding commitments including the welcome news that no school will have its budget cut as a result of the funding changes.

“There is also the important pledge that children who need school meals will get them and a Conservative Government will introduce school breakfasts for every child at primary school.

“I am proud of the fact that nearly all of our local secondary schools are rated either good or outstanding and we are all supportive of the amazing job teachers do to give our children the best possible start in life

“The way funding is distributed is simply not fair on county schools and it has been the top priority of mine ever since I first elected.

“I have welcomed the steps already taken by the Conservative Government to redress this historical imbalance and I will continue to make the case for an improved funding deal if I am re-elected on June 8.”
