WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has called on Government Ministers to encourage the Environment Agency to speed up work to deliver flood schemes for Severn Stoke and Tenbury Wells.
The MP spoke in the House of Commons following the serious flooding in Monmouthshire over the weekend.
Dame Harriett conveyed her sympathies for people affected by flooding as a result of Storm Claudia and said that local people had viewed the weather forecasts with ‘trepidation’.
She said: “As a flood-prone area, I know the people of West Worcestershire send their sympathies to all the people in Monmouthshire affected by Storm Claudia and the torrential rain that hit the country over the weekend.
“It could so easily have also been yet another disastrous flood in Worcestershire.
“There are two flood schemes in Severn Stoke and Tenbury Wells that are ready to be put in place and I wanted to make sure that Government Ministers do all they can to keep the Environment Agency and local councils on track to deliver these schemes with urgency, before the next floods hit.
“I thank the Flooding Minister for being supportive of these efforts and I hope that she can direct the Environment Agency to press on with both schemes.”
