Will you be wassailing in Colwall this weekend?

Malvern Editorial 14th Jan, 2019   0

A TRADITIONAL wassail will be held by the Colwall Ochard Group on Saturday January 19, writes Ryan Smith.

Participants should gather at Colwall Stone from 5.30pm where the butler will lead some old age Morris dancing until 6pm.

People are encourage to bring pots and pans to use as drums during the dancing and there will be a torch-lit procession to the orchard where the wassail will start.

There will be plenty of food and drink on offer, including a pig roast, veggie pasties, brownies, flapjacks, cider and mulled cider, beer and apple juice.

A bonfire will be lit at the orchard where people can sing and dance through the night.

The Wassail, which comes from the Old English Waes Hael translation ‘be in good health’, has been running from 2009.

They are held at orchards to ward off evil spirits and to bring about a bountiful harvest for the year ahead.
