CATHEDRAL chiefs have launched a festive fund-raising drive in the community asking for help to keep the historic landmark open for years to come.
As Worcester Cathedral prepares for a packed programme of festive celebrations this Christmas time, it is asking for your help to ensure it can continue to provide a place of community for everyone.
The Cathedral, like most, faces increasing financial hardship and as such, it has launched a Christmas Appeal aimed at raising vital funds towards its upkeep and mission.
As it prepares to welcome thousands of visitors to the esteemed Christmas Tree Festival, its much-loved Christmas Eve Crib Services (featuring real donkeys and sheep), a stunning concert featuring world-class music, midnight mass, Shoppers’ Carols (new this year) or one of the many other services and events taking place this December, the Interim Dean has sent a message to the community.
Canon Stephen Edwards said: “This Christmastime it is my pleasure to invite you and your loved ones to join the many activities, events and services at Worcester Cathedral.
“The Cathedral is a place of worship, a cherished historic building, a place of celebration and a home to joyful music of all kinds. But, most of all, the Cathedral is a gathering together of people, and every individual in our community is a vital piece. You, your family, loved ones, neighbours and friends; together, you complete us.
“The theme of our Christmas this year is ‘Togetherness’ – and in our wide range of both traditional and innovative services and music concerts we will celebrate those special bonds we share.
“So please do visit us this Christmastime and make our welcoming, historic Cathedral part of your Christmas celebrations this year, and if you feel able to donate to our Christmas appeal, help us to be here for years to come.
