Worcestershire mum Sue's charity cycle to raise cash in memory of son Olly

WORCESTERSHIRE mum Sue Irwin will be cycling 50 kilometres for charity today in memory of her son Olly who passed away last April aged 24 following a tragic accident.

Sue will be joined by up to 20 of Olly’s family members and friends to raise money for Help Musicians.

It was a cause close to Olly’s heart as he was an ardent dog and music lover.

Sue is hoping to raise over £2,000 for the charity and has raised over £1,290 so far this year.

Worcester will be the endpoint for Sue and her fellow cyclists, as well as for several of Olly’s friends who are completing a ten-kilometre walk.

Sue said: “Olly was a well-respected and talented musician and sound engineer, and so it’s only fitting that all the money raised from the second edition of my 50k cycle ride goes to Help Musicians.

“As a known contributor to the Worcester music scene, he’d have been thrilled that our fundraising efforts will go toward helping other music lovers.

“He was a keen cyclist, and completing an annual charity bike trip in his honour is a wonderful way to preserve his legacy and bring all of the family and friends that meant so much to Olly together.

“It will be a lovely way to share memories and engage in an activity he would’ve loved to have been a part of.”

Everyone taking part will wear specially made green t-shirts on the day, Olly’s favourite colour.

The ‘Help Musicians’ logo will be on each t-shirt.

Last year Sue raised £7,000 for High Hope’s Rescue Dog Centre in memory of her son after many people cycled 31 miles from Worcester to Malvern.

Next year Sue is looking to organise ‘Ollyfest’, an independent local charity music festival showcasing Worcester’s musical talent.
