Worcestershire takeaway owners warned they will face fines if they fail to follow Covid rules

OFFICERS from Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS) are reminding takeaway restaurants to follow Covid-19 rules or face Fixed Penalty Notices.

A number of restaurants have been warned about breaking the rules in recent weeks.

A WRS report says some staff have neglected wearing face coverings when serving customers and restaurants have failed to control the number of people waiting inside to collect their orders.

Delivery drivers working for takeaway businesses were also identified on several occasions walking into premises without a face covering on.

The chair of WRS, County Councillor Helen Dyke, said: “Given these people are taking food to people’s houses, it’s vitally important that these staff members are aware of how to work safely.

“We appreciate how hard it is for the business community currently, but getting things right, is essential in our efforts to bring down the number of Covid-19 cases in the county.

“It is important that those in charge of these premises make sure controls are in place.”

Takeaways can still operate during this lockdown but they must adhere to the rules of wearing masks, social distancing and closing their doors at 11pm for collection.

They can continue to operate after 11pm through deliveries.

WRS officers are continuing to make weekend checks on the hospitality trades, ensuring businesses offering food and drink are compliant.

Anyone with concerns about the conduct of a business can raise them with WRS by emailing [email protected] or calling 01905 822 799
