A GROUP of walkers raised more than £11,000 for a county charity after completing a 31-mile trek, writes Lucy Belfield.

The team walked the ‘Worcestershire Way’ route in just one day to raise the funds for the St Richards Hospice.

More than 60 participants took on the dawn ’til dusk challenge, including teams, individuals and runners.

The walk started in Bewdley and trekked across the Worcestershire countryside with the first refreshment stop at Abberley Hall School where there were an array of cakes for the hungry walkers.

The stop after that was The Talbot at Knightwick where the walkers enjoyed lunch, courtesy of the venue, and received massages from volunteer therapists to help with muscle ache.

After the tough steep climb up the Malvern Hills, the walkers completed the challenge and received their certificates and congratulations at The Red Lion.

St Richard’s Hospice fund-raiser Alison Parkes said a huge thank you to all the walkers for their incredible dedication and perseverance.

“Despite the warm temperature, the walkers stayed motivated and together have raised an incredible amount for our care of families and patients.

“Many people took on this challenge in memory of someone special as a way of saying thank you for the hospice care they received.

“But at the end of the walk they realise they have achieved something fantastic for themselves too.”

The event was sponsored by Hagley Homes.
