Malvern's state-of-the-art medical school puts the county on the map

WORCESTERSHIRE’S state-of-the-art technology has put Three Counties Medical School on the map.

The new medical school trains medics on anatomical models and an anatomage table, offering advanced 3D visuslisation of the human body and virtual dissection.

This eliminates the need for laboratories for the dissection of human bodies.

Professor Sandra Nicholson, founding dean of Three Counties Medical School said: “The Three Counties Medical School has been set up with the explicit purpose of training doctors to work in the three counties of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.

“It has a generalist curriculum that prepares students to go on to work in any specialty, but we encourage a community perspective engaging our students early with appropriate patient contact and innovative placements.

“We have a student-centred problem-based learning curriculum that focusses students learning on integrating science, its practical application and professional development.”

The medical school, launched last year, hosts 20 UK students funded through donations from the Kildare Trust and local NHS trusts, as well as 23 self-funded international students.

The construction of a new building at the Severn Campus, The Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, saw a collaboration with local companies, such as Thorlux lighting in Redditch.

The project, led by contractor Stepnell, contributed over £4million in social and local economic value.
