BARNARDS GREEN under-13 Colts have been crowned Worcestershire champions of the NatWest T20 Knock-out competition.

Green secured a 27-run victory over their rivals Kidderminster Victoria in a hard-fought contest to secure their place in the national finals of the T20 tournament.

After losing the toss and putĀ into bat, Green started well with opening batsmen Oliver Halion (19) and Ben Sutton (30 retired no) adding sizable contributions but the bowling of Matt Hatfield (3-20) and Dylan Griffiths (4-11) limited Green to 91-8 off their 20 overs on a difficult wicket.

In reply, Kidderminster’s Joe Miszkowski (22) was the only player to reach double figures as they were bowled all out for 64 after 18 overs.

Ollie Davis starred with the ball for Green, taking four wickets for 19 runs with Callum Morris (2-15) also getting his share of the wickets.

Keith Regan, Barnards Green team administrator, said: “I’m very proud of the boys. They’re a fantastic group of kids and the coaches leave no stone unturned.

“As long as the lads have fun in the national tournament that’s good enough for us, regardless of how well they do.”

Barnards Green will play the Warwickshire county champions – unknown at the time of press – in the first round of the national section of the competition.

The date of the fixture is yet to be decided but will be played between July 4 and July 10.
