BARNARDS GREEN’S hopes of remaining in the Birmingham League Division One promotion hunt were dented after they were beaten by two wickets by visiting Walmley.

Oli Swift top scored with an unbeaten 77 for the North End Lane hosts who posted 207-9 from their allotted 55 overs.

Jonathan Newis (5-66) did the damage with the ball for the Sutton Coldfield side who reached 209-7 with just under ten overs remaining.

Iandev Chuahan (65) and Michael Waugh (76 not out) led the charge for Walmley.

Green travel to fourth-placed Himley on Saturday.

Atiq ur-Rehman hit an unbeaten century for OLD ELIZABETHANS who moved out of the Birmingham League Division Two drop zone with a seven-wicket victory over Penkridge.

Rana Hassan (55) and Ishaq Mohammed (55 not out) top scored for Penkridge who were all out for 231 in the 53rd over, with Hemaka Pathininage taking 4-69 for the side from Worcester.

In response, OEs were 59-3 before an unbroken fourth wicket stand of 173 between ur-Rehman (117 not out) and Shameer Ahmed (57 not out) eased them away from the foot of the table.

OEs entertain league leaders Oswestry on Saturday.

Patrick O’Driscoll and Ben Schiffman picked up five wickets apiece for WORCESTER NOMADS who dragged Newport into the Division Three relegation frame with a nine-wicket victory.

O’Driscoll (5-20) and Schiffmann (5-42) bowled unchanged as Newport were routed for 66, with only Jonathan Goodwin (29) and Ian Gillespie (15) reaching double figures.

Second-from-bottom Nomads then raced to 68-1 in the 17th over to earn victory which gives them the slenderest of chances of avoiding the drop.

They sit 57 points adrift of safety with six games remaining.

Nomads travel to Stourbridge on Saturday.
