A HAT-TRICK from birthday boy Luke Corbett fired Malvern Town to an impressive 5-0 victory over Smethwick in their opening West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division fixture last night (Wednesday).

The now 32-year-old striker fired the Hillsiders into a 2-0 lead after 28 minutes at Hillcrest Avenue before Aaron Richards added a third.

Last season’s top goalscorer Dave Reynolds opened his account to make it 4-0 before Corbett topped off a day of celebrations with a penalty to claim his hat-trick and send Malvern into an unassailable 5-0 lead.

Victory for Malvern sees them move up to third in the table and claim their 11th straight league win on the bounce after winning ten of their last ten at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

The Hillsiders will hope to push on from their opening day success in their first home league game of the season against Bilston Town Community on Saturday.
