Depleted Malvern undone by Stourbridge Lions

DIRECTOR of rugby Rob Cook insisted Malvern have weaknesses to address following their 36-8 reverse to Stourbridge Lions in Midlands One West last Friday night.

Malvern were not helped by being forced to make six changes to the squad due to a number of work commitments.

Yet early on this did not seem to bother the visitors who started brightly before Lions drew first blood with a converted try.

Stourbridge then touched down just before half-time to extend their advantage.

The second period started with the hosts coming out all guns blazing and after a couple of penalties the inevitable try followed.

Malvern responded immediately and were rewarded with a penalty which Ben King slotted over.

Lions hit back with a converted try before Dion King touched down for Malvern’s only try of the game.

There was still time for Stourbridge to grab another two tries to run out comfortable winners.

Cook said: “There were some weaknesses which we will address in training but given our availability situation we were always going to find it difficult.”

Malvern welcome Sutton Coldfield to Spring Lane on Saturday.
