Fifteen-try blitz leaves Malvern delighted

MALVERN scored a resounding 15 tries against basement side Dunlop in a thumping 89-5 Midlands Two West (South) victory at Spring Lane on Saturday.

The hosts came out the blocks firing as they looked to make amends for their 30-20 defeat to Berkswell & Balsall the previous week and were soon off the mark when stand-off Adam Dixon glided through Dunlop’s defence to open the scoring, before adding the extras himself.

Skipper Luke Milton then found Ben King, who darted across the try-line to extend the hosts’ lead early on.

Malvern soon bagged their third try of the afternoon following a scrum, which saw the ball move across the line to Conor Giggle, who grounded in the far corner.

After a rare brief spell of pressure from Dunlop, Giggle secured his second try following a quick tap and go move from a penalty, before a long Dixon pass found Milton who drifted through to dot down.

The visitors refused to roll over and, after pushing forward and camping in the Malvern 22, they were finally on the scoreboard with a well worked try.

But this only spurred Malvern on and the Spring Lane side responded on the stroke of half time when Giggle scored his hat-trick, opening a 34-5 lead.

The hosts picked up where they left off entering the second half, as young centre Rory Atkins stormed through to score, which Dixon converted.

The forwards then got in on the act as loose head prop Toby Vermeire made a break and ran 40 metres downfield to ground under the posts.

Milton then burst across the try-line for his second of the game, before James Tutty breezed through from the halfway line.

Flanker Sam Parsons was the next Malvern player to dart across the try-line with ease, before Milton bagged his hat-trick.

Dixon then fed hooker Glen Potter who ran in for an impressive try, before the match was wrapped up with two further scores by Giggle and Parsons.

Team manager Joe Wilks said: “Whilst Dunlop were massively under-strength by their own admission, it was a superb performance by our lads.

“They would’ve been boosted by that performance and by the precision and incisiveness they showed to score 15 tries.”

Malvern travel to Coventry this Saturday (2.15pm) to take on Earlsdon.
