Finch keen to continue Rapid rise after recent run in team

YOUNG RAPIDS pace ace Adam Finch has vowed to make the most of any opportunity and experience of white ball cricket after bursting into the team.

Finch, 21, has so far played just six T20 and 11 List A games in his career.

But he has featured in the last four matches in this summer’s Royal London Cup and returned career best List A figures of 3-54 against Derbyshire at New Road on Sunday.

Finch came back into the attack to dismiss the in-form Derbyshire captain, Shan Masood, and Brooke Guest in the same over.

Then in the penultimate over he accounted for Alex Hughes and, for good measure, also hit his highest List A score of 24 during a partnership of 61 with century-maker and Rapids captain, Jake Libby.

Finch said: “I’m still learning, I’m still fairly fresh when it comes to white ball cricket, so just trying to take every opportunity I can to learn.

“I talk to [bowling coach] Alan [Richardson], see what he has for me, and every experience is a new experience really. I haven’t played many matches so it’s about keep trying to learn, keep trying to build on things.

“It is about trying to use the experiences, learn from the experiences and hopefully in the future, if I’d have been in a situation before I can look back and say ‘been in this place before, know what to do now to go about it, how to handle it.’ That’s the way I approach it. I’ve been trying to develop a lot. Like I said, I do speak a lot with Alan, and take on board new things all the time.

“It’s been nice to get an opportunity, and I’m really grateful to get the chance to play. A lot of people would do anything to get to do what we do for a profession.”

The bowler added: “Shan is a really good player, and Luis played well himself so, to break that partnership, I was really pleased.

“I was pleased with getting Guest out as well. I think the big boundaries helped a little bit, so just tried to use what was on offer.”

Finch says the Rapids want to end the competition on a high note to put them in a good place for the resumption of the LV=Insurance County Championship in September.

He said: “Hopefully if we can win a couple of games at the back end of this competition, and take some momentum into the Championship fixtures, it will be great.”

Finch made his T20 debut against Somerset at Edgbaston in September 2020 and his first List A appearance versus Kent at New Road last July.

The Rapids conclude their disappointing Royal London Cup campaign with the visits of Essex and Glamorgan to New Road on Friday (August 19) and Tuesday (August 23).
